Buckeye Trail Association Century Barn
In 2003, The BTA signed a 30 year lease with the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District for a barn near Tappan Lake on the east side of Ohio. Since that time a lot of work has been accomplished to clean up the barn and surrounding area. The barn is being prepared for potential use for annual meetings, board meetings, group picnics, and other events. | |
Here are some of the accomplishments:
- Floors in the restrooms and dorms are finished pine flooring
- A new roof has been installed.
- Stairs have been installed to the loft area.
- The entire inside of the barn was pressure washed (top to bottom).
- The loft has been divided into sleeping areas. (still under contruction)
- Galvanized screen was placed over the loft windows.
- Restrooms and showers have been installed. (for summer use only)
- Electricity has been installed.
- The yard is kept mowed for camping. (fire in the fire ring only)
- An expanded parking area is under development.
- Bat houses have been mounted and are availabale for the bats.
- The outside of the Barn has been painted white.
- First floor windows were rebuilt.
- A sidewalk goes from the road to the side entrance.
- Drainage tile carries water away from the back of the barn out to the road culvert.
- Gathering room has rough cut wooden floors.
- An office has been completed. (for official use only)
Directions to the barn: Take I-77 to US-250 east (just south of New Philadelphia). Follow US-250 past Tappan Dam almost to the end of the lake. There is a causway with a sign that reads "Tappan Lake Park". Turn right (this road also takes you to Deersville). Approximately 3.1 miles from the US-250 turnoff is Beall Rd. on the right. Follow this dead-end road 1.3 miles. It ends at the BTA Barn down a long gravel driveway.
Please remember that the house side of the driveway is absolutely and strictly off-limits. It is a private residence so please respect their wishes and stay on our side of the driveway and please do not block any roads.
Work parties at the Barn are listed on our Events Page or contact Russ Johnson at oparuss1@msn.com.
