How we advocate for access, funding, and protection of the Buckeye Trail
Decisions in city halls, Ohio’s Statehouse, and Congress shape the Buckeye Trail’s future. Advocacy secures funding, protects access, strengthens safety, and supports land and resource protection so people can enjoy the trail for generations.

Our trail coalition
The Buckeye Trail Association (BTA) is a founding partner of the Ohio Trails Partnership alongside the Ohio Horseman’s Council, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, Ohio Mountain Bike Alliance, and paddlers of Ohio.
Our coalition work
Together, members of the Ohio Trails Partnership advocate for non-motorized trails across Ohio, aiming to improve trail quality, quantity, safety, and sustainability through education, advocacy, and volunteerism.
State-level engagement
Periodically, the BTA and the Ohio Trails Partnership host the Ohio Trails Reception at the Statehouse following a legislative day with Ohio lawmakers. We collaborate with the Ohio Legislative Trails Caucus to discuss trail needs and celebrate progress.
Federal engagement
The BTA supported passage of the National Scenic Trail Feasibility Study bill in 2022. This begins the process to study the Buckeye Trail for possible designation as a National Scenic Trail. The study is being conducted by the National Park Service.
