Inspiring the next generation of trail stewards

The Buckeye Trail is a place to grow. Through partnerships with youth groups, scout councils, and educators, we offer outdoor experiences that build leadership, character, and a lifelong love of nature.

Scouting on the Buckeye Trail

The BTA works with Scouting America and Girl Scouts of the USA to promote outdoor recreation, volunteerism, and leadership.

Opportunities include:

  • Trail-based hikes and overnight trips
  • Service hours and conservation projects
  • Eagle Scout and Gold Award projects
  • Advancements like the Hiking, Backpacking, and Environmental Science merit badges
  • Trail maintenance and Leave No Trace training
  • Participation in Camporees, OA Conclaves, and University of Scouting events

Leadership through service

From trail cleanups to bridge builds, youth volunteers play a key role in keeping the trail safe and accessible. These projects help build real-world skills in teamwork, stewardship, and problem solving.

We welcome partnerships with:

  • High school environmental clubs
  • Youth leadership programs
  • Outdoor education groups
  • College service organizations
  • Homeschool networks
