Stockport Trail Alert:

  • (4/5/11) This Alert originated because the Owners who hold property in the vicinity of the Williams Bridge, otherwise known as the Barkhurst Covered Bridge, have withdrawn permission from BT to cross their property. Please honor this relocation. The Owners have threatened to charge any person crossing their property as a Trespasser.
The revision below shows the trail now located on road between Stockport Pt 17 and Pt 19. The trail has increased in length by 3.4 miles. To correct the Stockport Edition of June 2006, add 3.4 miles to the CW distance beginning at Pt 19 and including all points that follow. Similarly, add 3.4 miles to the CCW distance beginning at Pt 17 and including all preceding points.

Stockport Re-route

End of Trail Alerts

Stockport Section mapAlmost all of the Stockport section is hilly and timbered with small to medium farms scattered throughout. About three fourths of the trail follows township or back roads that are little used. The 18 plus miles of off road trail through American Electric Power ReCreation lands is an enjoyable hike where many lakes and beaver dams can be seen. Camping and water are available at AEP Woodgrove Campground H on Morgan County Road 27. Other off road sections are around the villages of Stockport and Chesterhill. The historic town of Stockport is very nice with some stores and restaurants plus the beautiful Muskingum River with tables and pit toilets at the bridge. The few towns the trail passes through are small but nice with small stores.
