Williamsburg Section Trail Alerts:
- (3/21/10) This Alert is an unusual Trail Alert. All of the information needed to hike the new trail is already on the Williamsburg Section Map that issued in November 2005. The trail that is described as the Dry Boot Trail has been incorporated into the main, blue blazed trail between Pt 6 and Pt 9 while the former main trail that went through the City of Williamsburg has been remarked as a white blazed side trail.
The decision to change the routing was very difficult. Williamsburg itself is a pleasant walk with a grocery, pizza parlors, a Post Office and restaurants. So why did we feel that the Alert was necessary? Between former Pts 8 and 9, the trail fords the East Fork of the Little Miami River. At low water, the crossing is both fun and interesting. The hiker can rock hop across rather large, smooth limestone rocks. However, these rocks become extremely slippery when wet so that the possibility of a fall with severe bruises or broken bones becomes likely, even during a good rain. Worse, at higher water which is usually muddy, the rocks disappear. Only a slick remains to show rather vaguely the location of the submerged rocks. At still higher water, standing waves develop. No evidence remains of what lies below the surface.
The story has probably been told enough. But, just to be sure, the route described between Pt 6 through Pt 9 in the most recent Williamsburg Section is now a side trail. The main trail follows the route described below. The trail length in the Williamsburg Section has been reduced by 1.3 miles. To adjust your maps, subtract 1.3 miles from all CCW distances shown for Pt 6 and below; i.e.- traveling eastward. And subtract 1.3 miles from all CCW distances shown for Pt 9 and above; i.e.- traveling westward.

Todds Run-Foster Rd (T-90) at SR-133
At 1800’ North of Pt 6 is a convenience store/gas station and laundromat with restrooms. In a similar distance NW, Williamsburg offers further amenities.
As Todds Run Foster Rd ends, BT turns SE onto SR-133 across Todd Run (2600’). In 750’ as SR-133 continues S, BT turns W onto Twin Bridges Rd. In 3100’, as Twin Bridges Rd continues SW, BT turns NW onto Ridge Rd and rejoins BT in less than 100'.

- (10/31/05) A new map was published
in 2005 with some significant route changes. If you have an older map, please
obtain the latest map for an accurate description of this section. However...
Be aware that the portion of the West Union map shown on the new and old Williamsburg map is incorrect. The West Union section heads North on Rt. 774 at Lake Grant Rd. The Williamsburg map shows West Union heading south on Rt. 774. The trail is shown correctly on the 2004 West Union map.
End of Trail Alerts
This section starts along Grant Lake, and follows
narrow country roads past numerous farms and small towns for
about ten miles. After passing through the city of Williamsburg,
the trail winds 25 miles through East
Fork State Park, the only portion entirely off-road. The
western part of the section finds increasing urban evidence as
the trail nears Cincinnati. It passes through the city of
Batavia, and along some more heavily traveled roads, before
ending in Milford, where it joins the Loveland Section and the Little
Miami Rail Trail.
