• Hiram College: Hiram College is a private liberal arts college opened in 1850 as the Western Reserve Eclectic Institute by Amos Sutton Hayden and other members of the Christian Church. James A Garfield, 20th President of the United States, was a student, then a teacher, and eventually the president of the college before leaving to serve in the Ohio State Senate.
• Hiram Historical Society: is an organization devoted to preserving the unique history and traditions of the village and township of Hiram through archival and educational programs. They offer a speaker series and events at the Century Home
• John and Elsa Johnson Home: The carefully restored home of John and Elsa Johnson in Hiram, Ohio, is a place where God gave Joseph Smith dozens of profound revelations in the 1830s. Jospeh Smith was an American religious and political leader and the founder of Mormonism and the Latter-Day Saint movement.
• Monroe's Orchard & Farm Market: Fresh and pick-your-own fruits throughout the growing season can be found at Monroe’s. Best known for its peaches, fans also eagerly wait for strawberries and cherries to be in season. The Farmer’s Market offers vegetables from local farmers.
• Camp Hi Canoe and Livery: 12274 Abbott Road. They offer leisurely canoe, kayak, and stand-up paddleboard (SUP) trips complete with gear and upriver transportation.
• The Garfield Trail: Hiram College is proud to be part of the Garfield Trail, a compilation of four historic sites in Northeast Ohio that hold significant importance to the 20th President of the United States. The four locations identified on the trail include: Moreland Hills Historical Society, birthplace of President Garfield; Hiram College, where President Garfield served as principal of the Western Reserve Eclectic Institute; James A. Garfield National Historic Site, home of President Garfield during his time as a congressman and presidential campaign; and Lake View Cemetery, final resting place of President Garfield.
• The James A. Garfield Collection at the Hiram College: Archives contains primary and secondary sources regarding the life and death of President Garfield and his family. It includes 4 record storage boxes of documents and photographs, 4 half-size record storage boxes, 6 record storage boxes of Garfield related books, 12 ½ linear feet of unboxed Garfield related books, 3 record storage boxes of Garfield related memorabilia and miscellaneous photographs. James A. Garfield House-also known as the Garfield Robbins Zimmerman Home - 6825 Hinsdale Street. In 1863, Garfield bought this house for his family. His wife Lucretia and father-in-law, worked to enlarge it while Garfield was away during the Civil War. It continued to be the family home until 1876 when the Garfields bought what became known as Lawnfield in Mentor Ohio. This has been bought by Hiram College and restored.
• James H. Barrow Biological Field Station: Established in 1967, the James H. Barrow Biological Field Station is a center for professional research in field ecology, conservation and sustainability, animal husbandry, native wildlife care and rehabilitation, collegiate education, and serves as a destination for environmental education.  It protects one of the few remaining old-growth forests in the Northeastern United States, one of the few cold-water streams in the Mahoning River watershed, and other ecosystems such as wetlands, forests, and meadows.
  Our visitor center is open to the public from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. every day expect major holidays. Hiking trails can be accessed from dawn to dusk. The visitor center is in the Field Station’s main building and trail heads can be accessed from the parking lot.

Events

• Headwaters Adventure Race Join us for a one-of-a-kind outdoor adventure through Portage County. The Headwaters Adventure Race includes a 2-mile run, 10-mile bike ride, and 5-mile paddle while supporting trails, parks, and watershed conservation. This race will take you through the Trail Towns of Mantua and Hiram.
• Apple Harvest Festival- held annually at Monroe’s Orchard

Outdoor recreation opportunities

• Hiking: The Village has created the James A Garfield Walking Tour, a self-guided journey through six historic stops that highlight the village’s connection to our 20th US President. Visitors can also hike the Hiram Loop Trail, a 4-mile trail that circles the village, connecting local historic sites, public gardens and community green space. Hiking trails are also accessible at the James H Barrow Biological Field Station.
• Biking: Biking is available on a portion of the Hiram Loop Trail; there is also a new 1.5-mile mountain bike trail
• Kayaking/Canoeing: Ladue Reservoir is a local favorite for fishing, bird watching, kayak trips, and paddleboarding.
  Cuyahoga River Trail-access to the Cuyahoga River is available at 5537 OH-82
