About Morrow, Ohio

Morrow sits inside Salem Township in Warren County, and was named in honor of Jeremiah Morrow, ninth Governor of the State of Ohio. Founded in 1845, the Village of Morrow was once a bustling train stop of the Little Miami Railroad, and it remains a vital point of connection within the southwest Ohio region. With close to 2,300 residents, the village sits at the intersection of US Route 22, the main east-west corridor to the region, and US Route 123 connecting north and south.

History and Geography

Located in the Ohio River Valley less than an hour’s drive from Cincinnati, the Village of Morrow is nestled within an area featuring river access and forested hills. Nearby landscapes range from suburban sprawl to rural and historic areas. Recent revitalization efforts have led to the restoration of historic landmarks in downtown Morrow, where visitors can experience history, art, culture, and outdoor recreation designed for families to enjoy.

Why You Should Visit

With two major waterways, forested hills, parks, and a regional multiuse trail, the Village of Morrow is a picturesque outdoor hotspot. Morrow offers numerous outdoor recreation opportunities including canoeing, biking, fishing, and walking paths, and a growing number of attractions including arts, shopping centers, and restaurants.

Places to visit

  • Fort Ancient: Built on a steep bluff overlooking the Little Miami River, Fort Ancient is a nature-lover’s paradise with miles of trails, earthen embankments, and hidden astronomical connections. Some of the embankments reach 23 feet high, which is incredible considering they were built one basket of earth at a time. More than 67 gateways break up these embankments, inviting people to wander in and connect with their community. One of the special areas at Fort Ancient is Morehead Circle, which is located near the museum. There is evidence that a woodhenge, or circular arrangement of wooden posts once existed there and that sacred ceremonies happened in this area.

  • Halls Creek State Nature Preserve: Two miles of hiking trails through a mature forest composed of hardwoods including maple, beech, oak and hickory, blanketed with many varieties of spring wildflowers and ferns. Halls Creek, a tributary of the Little Miami State and National Scenic River, passes through the preserve and forms a series of small, beautiful waterfalls as it passes over the Ordovician limestone bedrock.

  • The Big Tree Plantation: Since 1989, Big Tree Plantation has been a family favorite tradition for the Cincinnati area wanting the perfect Christmas tree, fresh decorations, unique gifts, great food and a day to create family memories. Nestled around a nine-acre lake, our property is the perfect setting for a family Christmas outing.

  • The Christmas Ranch: The Gift of Lights is more than just an opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds of Christmas, it is also a chance to include the less fortunate at a time of year when the need is keen. There are Christmas lights, pictures with Santa, bonfires, and seven shops to visit.

Outdoor recreation opportunities

  • Hiking: Explore miles of trails around Fort Ancient, North America’s largest ancient hilltop enclosure earthwork

  • Cycling: The Little Miami Scenic Trail was built on the foundation of the previous railroad, and runs for 78 miles. Smooth pavement makes it fun for a walk, a hike, skating or biking and cross-country skiing in the winter months.

  • Public Access: Enjoy access to the Little Miami River from Morrow Park on Hamlin Street

  • Fishing: The Little Miami River is known for smallmouth and rock bass

Events

  • Morrow Market: Monthly artisan market held, featuring over 80 local vendors. The event recurs the last Saturday of the month June to September, and the third Saturday in October.

  • Saturdays at the MAC (Morrow Arts Center): Open houses on occasional Saturdays from 11AM to 4PM. The MAC is a repurposed elementary school, now featuring local artists, shops, studios, handmade goods, and community gathering space.
