Outdoor recreation opportunities

• Hiking: Along with the Buckeye Trail, there are many nature paths located in the city parks.
• Biking: The Buckeye Trail follows a series of bike paths through Piqua.
• Kayaking/Canoeing: Possibly one of the area’s best-kept secrets for kayakers, the Hydraulic Canal connects two lakes and one pond in Piqua while also passing through a beautiful cemetery, a long wooded corridor populated by birds, turtles, and other wildlife, and Piqua’s largest park, Fountain Park. Including the lakes, the canal is about two miles in length and can take three to four hours to explore.

Places to visit

• Johnston Farm and Indian Agency: Home to the Johnston Farm Museum, which hosts an 1815 three-story brick farmhouse, 1808 double-pen barn, 1815 springhouse, and 1828 cider house. Visitors can ride General Harrison, a 70-foot-long replica of a canal boat commonly used to transport cargo and passengers during the 17th century, with costumed guides to give guests a more authentic experience.

• Downton Murals: Piqua is home to two remarkable murals that celebrate the city’s rich cultural legacy and community spirit.
• Farrington Reserve: A 27-acre property located on West Peterson Road with 2,500-foot access to the Great Miami River. Acquired in 2009 by the Miami County Park District, this reserve offers vital habitat for migrating birds, food sources, and wildlife migration. The Reserve has close access to the Great Miami River Recreational Trail for bicycling and hiking activities.
• John Scott Garbry Museum: Includes a hands-on museum replica of a town square featuring 19th-century shops and craft demonstration. Open throughout the year by appointment only; open to the public every third Sunday of October.

Events

• Farmers Market: Takes place 3 – 7 pm every Thursday, running from May 29 – September 25.
• Harvest Days: Old-fashioned fall fun every October in downtown Piqua. Pumpkin bowling, food trucks, craft vendors, and so much more.
• Rockin’ River Duck Drop: This annual summer community event promises high-spirited fun for the whole family. At approximately 6 pm, hundreds of bright yellow rubber ducks are launched into the river for a one-of-a-kind race (weather-permitting). Adopt a racing duck for a chance to win a $1,000 cash prize or one of many other giveaways.
• Taste of the Arts: This family-friendly event kicks off the summertime in Piqua. Food, demonstrating artists, children’s activities, and live music come together for a fun evening in downtown Piqua.
• Holiday Horse Parade: Held in November, the Holiday Horse Parade is an all-horse parade and features carriages, hitches, and riders all outfitted with holiday lights making their way through downtown Piqua.
