Buckeye Trail Preservation Trails and Conservation
Hiking trails offer a unique opportunity to engage in the conservation of our natural and cultural heritage. What better way to experience and re-connect to the lands we set aside than with a low impact hiking trail. Whether we search for solitude in Ohio’s forested hills or share the experience with a companion, a trail can be an invitation to the human experience in the outdoors.
What is your experience on the Buckeye Trail? Do you recall your own memories of walking through the gorge in the Old Man’s Cave area of the Hocking Hills, within the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, along the historic towpath of the Miami & Erie Canal, or some other out of the way gem on private lands in rural Ohio? Many of our memorable experiences of Ohio’s natural beauty are due to having access to the trail and the landscape through which it passes; the view, the wildlife, and the solitude.
The vision of the Buckeye Trail is to connect lands and communities around the state with a trail that can be hiked in part for a day or in its 1,440 mile entirety. The eventual completion of this vision aims to improve the quality of life for the residents of Ohio, create a destination for visitors and provide an opportunity for reconnecting to Ohio’s natural and cultural heritage for generations to come.
The continuous development of the Buckeye Trail is a truly grassroots effort that asks and receives a lot from its members and volunteers. We depend mainly on ourselves to see to it that the trail is built, maintained, promoted and protected for the benefit of all Ohioans and visitors. Protecting the lands through which the Buckeye Trail passes is important to protecting that view, wildlife, and the experience we have come to expect hiking along the trail. You can help protect the Buckeye Trail and conserve the lands through which it passes by donating to the Buckeye Trail Preservation Fund today.
