Trail Alert in Sinking Spring Section Points 13-15. This trail alert is due to multiple issues on the BT in the Fort Hill Earthworks and Nature Center (owned by the Ohio History Connection and managed by the Arc of Appalachia). The Sinking Spring Section Supervisor, along with other BTA volunteers, has identified major issues of deteriorating stairs, bridges, multiple stream crossings, and structures from Point 14 to Point 15. In addition, any temporary trails to avoid this deterioration would cause damage to the environment with its rare animal and plant species.
Until the issues can be resolved, the BT will bypass Point 14. The detour reduces the distance from Point 13 to Point 15 by 1.7 miles. The detour applies to all BTA map products.
The detour is logged below:
- From Point 13, follow the BT 1.3 miles to the junction of the Deer Trail. Note: Going N (right) on the Deer Trail will lead you to the Fort Hill parking lot and other amenities.
- Continue SW (left) on the Deer Trail for 1.0 mi to where it joins the Gorge Trail.
- Take the Gorge Trail S (left) for 0.15 mi to a junction with the BT.
- Follow the BT S (left) another 1.1 mi to reach Point 15.
- Continue on the BT as described in BTA map products.
