Burton Map Update

Pt 23: The Sugar House on Burton Square to
Pt 24: BT at Rapids Rd (C1)

Due to an extremely wet area that often flooded the BT, Tim Murphy, the Burton Section Supervisor, worked diligently to establish an alternate route. This new route replaces a former alert that was in place to avoid the wet area. Burton Township Trustees are allowing hikers to use part of their POW/MIA Trail in the Veteran’s Memorial Forest and Park.

This map update increases the length of the Burton Section by 0.3 mi. to 61.3 mi. applies to all BTA mapping products.

The new trail description is as follows:

Pt 23 The Sugar House on Burton Square

Continuing S from public square on S Cheshire St, pass Century Village Museum (Fee), a collection of historic buildings, which hosts annual Apple Butter, Antique Power and Bluegrass/Folk Music Festivals. Continue S on S Cheshire St past Red Maple Inn B&B. At Carleton St (0.28 mi), turn right (W) and at Rapids Rd, turn left and cross Carleton to walk S along the roadside. In 0.1 mi at the Burton Township Administrative/Maintenance driveway, enter the township property and travel along driveway to the back of the Administration Building.

Note: Township officials request no trail parking at their location. Parking is nearby 0.17 mi S on the E side of Rapids Rd. at the oil storage tank parking area. Day use parking only, 4 spots.

Exit drive left (E) and enter the Burton Township Memorial Forest and Park where the BT follows parts of two trails: first, the Veterans Memorial Trail and second, the POW/MIA Trail. After 0.3 mi, pass a small pond on your right where Sand Hill Cranes have been seen, and at trail junction, the BT leaves the POW/MIA Trail to pass S along the edge of a larger farm field. After 0.35 mi at SE corner of field, turn right (W).

Pt 24: BT at Rapids Rd (C1)
