Pt 4 Towpath Trail at Bridge to Canal Rd to
Pt 5 Hike and Bike Path at Alexander Rd
The BTA was granted permission by the Park Manager of the Bedford Reservation in Cleveland Metroparks, to move 1700’ of on-road trail along Sagamore Rd into the forest. The segment of the trail moved is between Pt 4 and Pt 5 in the Bedford Section. Bill Hines, Section Supervisor, and his trail crew worked to clear and blaze the new trail.
This map update applies to all BTA mapping products.
The length of the trail does not change. However, the length of off-road trail increases by 0.3 mi and the on-road portion decreases by 0.3 mi.
The new trail description is below:
Pt 4 Towpath Trail at Bridge to Canal Rd
CW 4.9 mi NE | CCW 61.2 SW
BT is now back in Cuyahoga Cty and mostly stays out of Summit Cty from here N. BT crosses bridge NE. The historic Frazee House lies directly across Canal Rd (limited P, WC). BT crosses Canal Rd, turns right (SE), and after 500’ heads E along Sagamore Rd. In 250’ there is a horse trailer parking area. The BT goes into the woods off the northeast corner of the parking area. The BT meanders 0.3 miles through the woods generally east. It then follows a footpath between creek and Sagamore Rd guard rail. In 300’, BT leaves guard rail ascending wooded ridge above Sagamore Creek. In 1.3 mi, BT turns N onto the “Bike and Hike Trail”, managed by Metroparks serving Summit County. The BT follows only 0.15 mi of the northern end of this 33.5-mile trail that extends between Alexander Rd and Kent, OH on abandoned rail grades.
