Communications Team Blog Editor

The Blog Editor helps keep the Buckeye Trail Association’s (BTA) online presence fresh, accurate, and engaging. The blog is a hub for news, volunteer stories, trail town highlights, and stewardship updates. The Blog Editor ensures stories are published consistently, categorized correctly, and aligned with BTA’s mission.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Review, edit, and publish blog submissions for clarity, tone, and accuracy
• Organize content into appropriate categories and apply SEO-friendly tags
• Maintain a consistent posting schedule to keep content current and engaging
• Coordinate with staff, volunteers, and contributors to gather and finalize content
• Ensure blog posts align with BTA branding, messaging, and communication goals
• Monitor the blog for outdated content and recommend updates as needed
• Assist in developing content ideas that highlight volunteers, trail work, and community impact

Outcome/Impact

This role strengthens BTA’s storytelling and outreach by ensuring high-quality, engaging blog content. A well-maintained blog increases visibility, supports volunteer engagement, and highlights the impact of the Buckeye Trail and its community.

• Minimal physical risk (computer-based role)
• Requires attention to detail to avoid publishing errors or outdated information
• Responsibility for representing the organization publicly through written content

Term Length & Exit Clause Reminder

This is an ongoing volunteer role. A commitment of at least 6–12 months is preferred. Volunteers are asked to provide advance notice if they plan to step down to allow for a smooth transition. We deeply value your time and your willingness to support the Buckeye Trail in a volunteer capacity. We do our best to check in as needed with new volunteers to ensure you have the tools and support you need to make a difference. As a volunteer, you understand that your service is entirely voluntary. At any time and for any reason, either you or the BTA may choose to end your volunteer service. A volunteer position may also be adjusted, in conversation with the relevant BTA staff member, to better suit either the needs of the BTA or the interests of the volunteer. The best way to ensure you're well supported and providing meaningful service is to stay in regular and proactive contact with your BTA volunteer point person, who will be introduced to you during the onboarding process.

• Strong writing and editing skills.
• Ability to organize content into the correct categories and apply SEO-friendly tags.
• Comfort with (or willingness to learn) the blog's entry interface (Kirby) and basic markdown formatting syntax.
• Reliable communicator who can respond to submitters in a timely manner.
• Enthusiasm for trails, conservation, and community storytelling.

Desired Skills

• Experience with blogging platforms or website CMS tools
• Experience editing for tone, voice, and audience
• Basic understanding of nonprofit communications or storytelling
