Finance Committee Member

The Finance Committee consists of the Vice-President (Chairman), Treasurer, another member of the Board, Executive Director, and at least one member from the active membership to be appointed. The Finance Committee shall prepare an annual budget; review financial reports of the Treasurer; report the financial status of the Association at the quarterly Board meetings; control financial operations within the limit of the total approved budget; and organize and establish subcommittees to further the committee’s work and fulfill its functions.

The Finance Committee is looking for an additional Buckeye Trail Association Member to join the committee. The Finance Committee Member supports the financial health and sustainability of the Buckeye Trail Association (BTA) by participating in budgeting, financial oversight, and reporting. This role works collaboratively with committee members and leadership to ensure responsible stewardship of organizational funds and alignment with BTA’s mission.

• Participate in the development and review of the annual organizational budget
• Contribute to the development and review of financial reports to the BTA Board of Directors
• Provide input on financial planning, priorities, and long-term sustainability
• Attend and actively participate in Finance Committee meetings

This role helps ensure BTA maintains strong financial oversight, transparency, and accountability. The committee’s work directly supports effective decision-making, responsible use of funds, and the long-term sustainability of the organization and its programs.

• Minimal physical risk (primarily administrative role)
• Responsibility for handling sensitive financial information, requiring confidentiality and attention to detail
• Potential for time-sensitive tasks around budgeting and reporting deadlines

The term for this position is one year with an automatic renewal, unless circumstances require otherwise. We deeply value your time and your willingness to support the Buckeye Trail in a volunteer capacity. We do our best to check in as needed with new volunteers to ensure you have the tools and support you need to make a difference. As a volunteer, you understand that your service is entirely voluntary. At any time and for any reason, either you or the BTA may choose to end your volunteer service. A volunteer position may also be adjusted, in conversation with the relevant BTA staff member, to better suit either the needs of the BTA or the interests of the volunteer. The best way to ensure you're well supported and providing meaningful service is to stay in regular and proactive contact with your BTA volunteer point person, who will be introduced to you during the onboarding process.

• Current member in good standing with the Buckeye Trail Association
• Interest in nonprofit financial management and organizational sustainability
• Willingness to maintain confidentiality of financial information
• Ability to collaborate and participate in committee discussions

• Experience with budgeting, accounting, or financial reporting
• Familiarity with nonprofit finances or board governance
• Attention to detail and analytical thinking
• Ability to interpret and discuss financial documents

• Attend regular Finance Committee meetings
• Review materials in advance of meetings
• Contribute thoughtfully to discussions and decision-making
• Communicate promptly with the committee regarding availability and responsibilities
