Make a lasting impact by becoming a Trail Adopter

Trail Adopters are the front line of Buckeye Trail stewardship. They help monitor, maintain, and advocate for specific trail Sections, keeping them clear, safe, and enjoyable for all who pass through.

What is a Trail Adopter?

Trail Adopters take responsibility for a Section of the Buckeye Trail (usually two to five miles) and commit to visiting it at least two times a year. Their duties include light maintenance, blazing, reporting issues, and serving as a local ambassador for the trail.

Adopters are asked to:

  • Visit their Section every four to six months.
  • Trim brush, remove small debris, and repaint blazes as needed.
  • Report larger maintenance needs like downed trees or erosion.
  • Stay in contact with their Section Supervisor.

Tools and training

We’ll set you up for success.

  • You’ll receive guidance from a Section Supervisor.
  • Basic tools and safety gear may be available to borrow.
  • You’ll have our Trail Adopter Handbook and training resources.
